Through The Looking Glass

'There's no use trying. One can't believe
impossible things.'

- Alice (In Wonderland)

'I daresay you haven't had much practice.
When I was your age, I always did a half-
an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've
believed as many as six impossible things
before breakfast.'

- The Queen (In Wonderland)

Do you think that might be one reason she
became the Queen? Believing she could do
'impossible' things.

And you notice Alice had to quit looking AT
the mirror.

She had to stop seeing herself as she was,
with all her failures and limitations. She
had to look through the mirror to see what
she could become. It took awhile to sort it
all out, but her life changed permanently
when she entered that new world of
possibility.

My mentor Matthew Furey pointed out in
a recent blog you can see yourself anyway
you want. No reason you can't see yourself
as a doctor discovering the cure for cancer,
President of the United States, 35 pounds
slimmer, loving to exercise, driving a
Hummer, successful in business or coaching,
or shooting 98% from the freethrow line.

Yes, I know there's a difference between
fantasy and imagination, but how you see
yourself, your self-image, and the grace
of God determine what you are able to
accomplish and become in your life.

Whatever you believe on the inside (good,
bad, or indifferent) sets the tone for what
you'll manifest in the outside world.

And you don't even have to take my word
for it. You can prove it yourself.

Every day for the next 21 days, mentally
pretend you are shooting like you want to
shoot in some area. Freethrows, the mid-
range jumpshot, 3-point shots, the hook
shot, with the off hand, etc.

Don't change your actions though. Don't
practice any more than you already have
been.

Just take 15 - 30 minutes extra a day to
vividly imagine yourself making picture
perfect shots over and over and over in
the face of fierce defensive pressure. And
don't forget to add as much sensory
information as you can like the roar of the
crowd, thesmells, squeeking sneakers, etc.
And make it extremely enjoyable.

If you're willing to do this, I think you're
going to discover something unusual.
Without an extra ounce of will power -
you'll naturally be drawn to change.

You'll seek out the best coaching you can
find, be more teachible, and start practicing
better.

You'll start wanting to do what it takes to
be a great shooter. You'll have a burning
desire to excel, and before too long you'll
start thinking and shooting like a superstar.

First you have to get the vision and use
your creative imagination. Then watch as
change begins to manifest as you adapt
your activity till you have a new reality.

How To Fall In Love With Conditioning

Coaches, you can completely change the way you
and your players look at and perform, conditioning.
Take what is usually the hardest, most negative
part of practice and turn it into a positive team
building experience.

How?

Here are suggestions from Coach Bruce E. Brown.

1. The better your team practices the more
conditioning you let them do.

2. Praise all great effort regardless of outcomes.

3. Players losing a drill or competition do not get
to sprint. Winners do.

4. Reward your best workers instead of punishing
your worst ones. Stop punishing those who are
trying their best. Their work ethic will develop
them into productive players.

5. Don't wear your team out foolishly. Know when
enough is enough. Seek quality and intensity over
volume. One key to making this work is
understanding how to use high intensity sprinting
such as that taught by Coach Tim Kauppinen at:

http://www.deandelker.com/hill_sprints.html

P.S. Keep your eyes and ears tuned for an
announcement soon how you can win $19,500 for
placing 16th in a 3-point shooting contest. I don't
dare tell you what the winner gets yet because
you won't believe it, but you will certainly like it.

If you ever needed a reason to practice like a
madman this will do it for you.

What's Holding You Back

Do you know what is holding you back from living
the no-limit lifestyle we talked about yesterday?

If you don't practice shooting as much as you want
to, for example, why not? Don't be discouraged if
you're mystified. It is a question for the ages.

In the 1st century AD a man they call Paul the
apostle described himself in a similar situation in
the world's bestselling book.

"I don't understand what I'm doing. What I want
to do, I don't, but what I hate, that's what I end
up doing."

Paul was describing a universal human experience,
and he said it was due to the pressure of "the law".
I call it human nature. As they say, "To err is
human."

The obvious question then is - How do I become
super-human?

Step one is to know what you are worth because
you will only achieve what you think you deserve.

If you don't believe you deserve success you will
either languish where you are in life, or you will
make headway only to sabotage yourself back to
where you feel comfortable. It works like a
setpoint.

I personally believe you are of infinite worth
because of my faith, but you have to come to
your conclusion on your own. Feel free to
email me at dean@deandelker.com if you
want to know more what I believe and why.

I Can't Afford It

I had a couple of emails lately with people saying how
much they'd like to buy something on
http://www.deandelker.com
but they couldn't afford it.

Believe me I know that feeling. Until the last couple
of years when the kids got older my wife Joan and I
were raising 5 children on a single income. It was a
deliberate choice, but things were almost always tight.

Even when Joan started working part-time I still felt
'We can't afford it' was my permanent mantra.

I know today rather than giving in to that kind of
feeling, it is far, far better to ask an enpowering
question like, 'How CAN I afford that?'

Not that you expect to come up with an instant
answer, but when you pose the question and give
your subconscious a crack at it you'll usually come
up with ways to make it happen.

I also used to believe the adage 'It takes money, to
make money', but I've been convinced lately that's
a cop-out. What it takes to make money most of
the time are creative ideas. Sure there are plans and
action involved too, but the seeds to your success are
in those ideas.

If you've found yourself wishing you had more money
for a worthwhile need lately have you ever thought
about promoting a basketball camp in your area?

If you have time, are willing to do the legwork and
promoting, know coaches in your area, and can find a
good set of dates you can make some good money.

I'm thinking about doing that over the Christmas
break myself.

Coach Stan Kellner's 'Yes I Can' camps have a lot to
offer. You only need one day free to host their
powerful shooting camp, and that would probably
be a unique offering in your area and well attended.
Their full basketball cybernetics camp is also
awesome.

Check it out at:

Shoot For The Stars,

Dean Delker - The Dean 0f Shooting Hoops

P.S. Coach Stan has taught basketball players how
to integrate mind and body and get amazing results
on the hardwood for over 30 years. His basketball
cybernetics programs have helped untold numbers
of players break through their self-imposed limits,
create more productive self-images, and reach new
performance levels.

Stan's new shooting DVD demystifies the process and
has you getting positive results in far less time. It's not
unusual for several kids in his camps to hit over 100
shots in a row after learning Stan's methods.

Don't be a wimp with money any more. Find a way to
afford it and order it now at:
