Dean Delker Bio

Dean Delker grew up in Henderson, Kentucky an unabashed basketball fan as you might imagine. While knocking out top grades at Holy Name Catholic School he remembers never missing a varsity basketball game. Truth is the nuns in Kentucky never gave homework on game night. In addition he had a legacy to uphold. His uncle had been the school’s first coach.

When his basketball career ended in the 8th grade Dean was bitten by the music bug and played for 4 years in one of the top rock bands in the Evansville, Indiana tri-state area. Finally college called, and he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Engineering with honors from the University of Missouri at Rolla, one of the top engineering schools in the Midwest.

Not having time for a band, he joined the staff of his totally-student-run campus radio station, starting in the sports department. He edited and read the nightly sports, and was the on-air color commentator at basketball games. Dean later auditioned for a DJ slot and with his passion for music was soon hosting the coveted prime-time Saturday night show.

His last 2 years at the station he took over as Program Director and helped DJ’s keep up with the constant influx of new albums from all the record company reps he’d come to know. Besides his classic rock influences of the 60’s and 70’s Dean also picked up a love for roots and acoustic music during that period and in case you’re wondering his all-time favorites are the The Allman Brothers Band, the Beatles, and Bruce Springsteen.

Dean later worked at a hospital in biomedical engineering, designed stereo speakers, and wrote a program which helps stimulate people’s creativity before settling down as a computer administrator at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Faith and spirituality play a big part in his life, as does his excitable wife of 25 years, and their 5 loving children and 2 grandchildren. He also still regularly plays bass guitar in a band of 50-something no-nonsense musicians.

His greatest passion though is still the great game of basketball he grew up with, and although he has only had time to volunteer coach twice he has always been a student of the game especially in the areas of shooting, mental toughness, peak performance, success principles, mind power, and sports psychology.

Now his passion is to teach all comers the best cutting edge ideas for shooting hoops by running a website that is a clearinghouse for the best information available.
